Orange County Needs in our Community

 

2-1-1 Orange County Referral Hotline reported staggering increases in service requests in the past year:


• 67% increase in requests for food referrals
• 47% increase in requests for transitional housing
• 67% increase in requests for healthcare
• 50% increase in requests for mental health counseling

 

2-1-1 also saw an increase in cities once considered unlikely to need services:


• 66% increase in calls from Rancho Santa Margarita
• 51% increase in calls from Yorba Linda
• 40% increase in calls from Mission Viejo
• 36% increase in calls from Irvine
• 27% increase in calls from Laguna Beach

 

During the 2008/2009 campaign year, Orange County United Way committed funds to provide basic needs services and educational and financial literacy programs to deserving families and individuals:

 

Basic Needs
• $375,648.00 to Food programs
• $1,110,483.62 to Medical Care
•  $356,355.86 to Shelter
• $1,245,831.89 to Emergency Services

 

Education
• $151,351.20 to Early Education programs
• $1,185,222.88 to Youth Development programs

 

Financial Stability
• $82,992.00 to Financial Literacy programs
• $292,003.42 to Workforce Development programs
